“As a parent, all we can do is try to instill the right values into our kids, and help them make the right choices as they are growing up. Then we just need to trust that they will be good citizens and help make the world a better place. And I cannot think of a better high school to allow students to be authentic, and help develop them into good, well-rounded people, regardless of what they do — if they pursue the arts or not after attending The Academy.”
Matt Mead is the father of Claudia Mead (Theatre ‘20). Claudia is excited to announce that she has decided to attend Loyola University to major in Nursing!
Matt will miss The Academy’s inclusive community, and how it helped Claudia grow into who she is today.
“Claudia enjoys most being ‘with her people’. She is most comfortable and at home with the diverse and open-minded community at The Academy. She has built so many friendships and has so much support from students, teachers, and administrators. The Academy community is accepting of each student and who they really are. It has allowed Claudia to explore who she is in so many ways (academic and personal) and I feel she is a more confident and well-rounded young adult as a result.”
As a parent of an Academy student, you have the opportunity to witness the art produced by all six arts departments.
“I love The Academy’s intense and consistent passion toward the arts, especially during this time of remote learning. I've been impressed with the teachers’ and Jason's [Head of School] commitment to the students’ safety, but also how the school is still celebrating the arts and finding ways for students to continue practicing and displaying their artistic abilities during these unprecedented times. Every show I've seen over the past four years, I forget that I'm watching high school students perform because they are so professional. There have been so many dance and musical theatre shows, media arts presentations, and theatre performances that have brought me and the audience to tears because of the deep emotions that are conveyed by the students.”
Congratulations to Claudia and the Mead Family!
