Alice Gold

In 1984, Alice Gold became a part of The Academy family when her son's love for dance led her to seek out a place that could shape his future. Facing the challenge of financing private school enrollment, Alice took the initiative to find a way to support her son's education and wondered: could she work at The Academy?

She started as an administrative aide and swiftly transitioned into the role of the school's registrar. However, among the Academy community, she was more well known as the "woman who wore many hats." She served as the school nurse, building manager, unofficial counselor, and a comforting presence to students, earning the endearing title of "mom" to the entire community. To Alice, the school was more than an institution; it was her own child.

One student beautifully captured the essence of Alice in a poem:

"It is no wonder then that

Such goodwill exists in this place,

And everyone knows that at the center of it

Is Alice Gold’s space."

Even after her third child graduated from The Academy, Alice chose to remain at the school not out of necessity but because her presence was irreplaceable and deeply valued.

In 2014, Alice officially retired from The Academy, yet her connection with faculty and alumni persisted until her passing in 2021. Alice stood as a constant pillar of The Academy for three decades, and her impact on the community will continue to resonate for years to come.

She did everything. Believe this or not, on snowy days, she’d be here at 4 a.m. shoveling the snow to make a path from the parking lot to the back door. She really did that.
